Connect a POS station to a DVR for text overlay onto surveillance video. The LAVA DataTap-IP taps into the receipt printer's data stream, making POS transaction data a security tool.
Features: • Dual RS-232 DB09M serial ports supporting up to 115,2 Kbps throughput per port • Serial Input port receives POS data from POS hardware • Serial Output port sends POS data to POS printer • Ethernet Output sends POS data to remote digital video recorder (DVR) • 10 Base-T Ethernet interface (RJ45) • Intuitive installation and easy web browser configuration • Client or server operation • User-configurable control signal passing (DTR, RTS) • User-configurable/removeable printer Esc code handling (paper out, etc.) • IP address user configurable or DHCP configured • Password protection • Support for: IP, HTTP, TCP, UDP • Power supply included
Benefits: • General purpose serial data line splitter with added power of fully configurable data filters. • As a security device, the LAVA DataTap-IP can perform actions such as sending an event notification to a remote location while at the same time initiating a local action on the serial port, such as sounding an alarm. • In point of sale, the device can collect serial output data from a POS station and simultaneously port it to both a serial printer and a remote IP-based collection device such as a server or DVR. • Engineering applications include serial device monitoring and code translation between serial ports for a variety of testing platforms. • Universal compatibility, transparent operation
Toronto, Ontario, July 20, 2005 - With security and 'shrink' being top of mind for retailers, text overlay of transaction data onto POS surveillance video is quickly becoming the application of choice for fraud-conscious merchants. Now, with LAVA's recent launch of the DataTap-IP, it's never been easier or more cost-effective to monitor cashier/cash register activity at the point of sale.
Many retailers have long wanted the ability to combine the output of video surveillance cameras with a database of POS transactions. However, they either couldn't afford complicated and expensive systems; or were limited by the 50-foot RS-232 serial cable limitation required to link their POS station to a digital video recorder (DVR). Now they have an alternative?one that is simple to connect, and costs a fraction of the price of more sophisticated, all-inclusive surveillance systems.
The LAVA DataTap-IP taps into a serial printer's data stream and provides serial port splitting and routing. This enables any POS station to both print to a serial printer, and to simultaneously send the transaction information for text overlay onto any DVR. The DataTap-IP's serial port pass-through operates as the functional equivalent of a direct serial connection between the POS terminal and printer. Its Ethernet port provides an IP connection between the serial port on the POS station and the Ethernet port on the DVR. Software running in the DVR handles printer output text overlay while the DataTap removes unnecessary printer control codes. Transaction images can be viewed from the DVR or any computer on the network or Internet.
Intuitive installation, universal compatibility, and easy web browser configuration make this the simplest solution of its kind to enhance POS surveillance, even for a PC novice.

The average shoplifter is caught only one out of every 49 attempts and almost half of all shrink can be attributed to employee theft. The LAVA DataTap-IP helps shop, convenience, restaurant, bar, or grocery store retailers to see if an employee is voiding receipts, pocketing money from the till, or giving customers a 'sweetheart' deal at any time of the day or night.
